Pacesetter’s Club Awarded
$25,000 Matching Grant
Once again, the John E. Morgan Foundation is pleased to present the Schuylkill United Way Pacesetters Club with a tremendous opportunity.
The foundation will for the second year in a row match all new dollars donated to the Pacesetters Club during the 2010 Campaign. New Pacesetters who join will have their donation matched 100 percent while current club members who increase their donation over last year will have their increase matched by the $25,000 matching grant.
Jim Zigmant, Treasurer and Vice Chairperson of the John E. Morgan Foundation is committed to community involvement and improvement.
“We are pleased to partner with the Schuylkill United Way to assist the community here in Schuylkill County,” Zigmant said. “We strive to participate in numerous non-profit organizations, whether financially or through volunteering. Needless to say, we are proud to enhance the Schuylkill United Way Pacesetters program.”
The role of the Pacesetters Club is traditionally to get a head start on the annual campaign, which begins each year in September. Club members “set the pace” for giving by running their part of the campaign prior to kick-off.
The club is divided into six divisions according to the amount of the donation and includes only individual contributions. Copper is $500 - $749, Bronze is $750 - $999, Silver is $1,000 - $1,499, Gold is $1,500 - $1,999, Diamond is $2,000 - $2,499, and Platinum is $2,500+.
Pacesetters Co-Chairman Jay Jones said club members set a record last year with 336 active members who combined to donate more than 28 percent of the total campaign which last year raised $1,021,072. That’s $290,250 toward the 2009 Campaign.
The club began in 1994 and the Pacesetters alone have since raised $2,922,411 to help support each of the 15 partner agencies who offer their programs and services for little to no cost.
“Our Pacesetters have always been an important part of our campaign each and every year,” Jones said. “They are a very generous and loyal group of individuals who we know we can count on again and again.”
Co-Chairman Bob Weaver said the John E. Morgan grant could have a positive influence on the Pacesetters donations this year.
“Our Pacesetters are outstanding community members,” Weaver said. “Their generosity helps us to reach our goal each year and now with the help of the John E. Morgan Foundation, we hope to break new records.”
Despite the current economic forecast, the Schuylkill United Way is extremely optimistic that with the help of the community and the continued support of all the kind individuals and companies who have contributed over the years, that they will reach the 2010 Campaign goal which has been set at $1 million.
The Schuylkill United Way 2010 Campaign of H.O.P.E. (Helping Other People Everyday) kicks off on Friday, Sept. 11 at 8:00 AM at Penn State Schuylkill in Schuylkill Haven and Monday, Sept. 14 at 8:00 AM at Dimaggio’s La Dolce Casa in Tamaqua. The campaign traditionally runs through November.
