Captain Jason B. Jones Memorial Day of Caring
The Day of Caring was created by Schuylkill United Way to match volunteers to service projects at our Partner Agency organizations who facilitate health and human services for free or little cost to the residents of Schuylkill County. Thanks to a generous response in volunteers, we have been able to extend volunteer efforts to other nonprofits, municipalities, and parks across the county. Projects vary from gardening to painting, cleaning and small repair projects depending on volunteer interest and skill set and the need of the project site.
Schools, libraries, and nursing homes participate in various ways too. The most popular is doing a letter writing campaign for Operation Gratitude organized by Schuylkill United Way.
We volunteer in honor of Captain Jason B. Jones, a hometown hero who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving his country in June 2014. This special day of community service was renamed for Captain Jones the following year.
Special “thanks” goes out to Geisinger St. Luke’s Hospital & St. Luke’s Hospital – Miners Campus for sponsoring the Day of Caring t-shirts.

Why We Volunteer
- Because it helps our county! It’s a great opportunity for teams of co-workers, family, and friends to give back and make meaningful impact in one day.
- Collectively, this day saves our Partner Agencies and other organizations thousands of dollars in maintenance and upkeep costs that can be redirected to their missions.
- To honor the memory and service of Captain Jones.
